GD Certificate
Dr Bheem Singh Nanda talks about the importance of a GD certificate, “So for mastectomy and top surgery I just need one GD letter. This I clarify beforehand because a lot of my patients get confused as to what they would require.”
Who should I consult?
“So if you are going to a mental health professional, either a psychologist or psychiatrist then they give you clearance for HRT. And then they give you clearance for top surgery, gender affirmation surgery or sex reassignment surgery, whatever word you want to use for it. So you have to check it properly. Sometimes patients come in and ask for a slot for the surgery and then when I check their GD or their Gender Dysphoria Certificate they only have permission for Hormone Replacement Therapy only. So this is very clear from our side, and my side especially that till a mental health professional or psychiatrist or psychologist whoever you are consulting, doesn’t give you clearance that you can go ahead with the top surgery, mastectomy So some doctors word it as top surgery, some say gender reassignment surgery, some call it sex change surgery. I can’t operate you unless you have a document stating that you are ready. So mastectomy or top surgery needs only one GD certificate.”
Surgery Letter
Dr Bheem explains that the process is pretty simple. “Whenever you want to take it, you can. If you want it the next day then be it. You are coming to me on the 3rd day and the 10th day anyway so you can take it from me whenever you want to. In the hospital we have an office where the letter gets made, I just have to sign on it.”
