HRT medicines
Dr Bheem says that HRT has to be stopped a few days before surgery. “So HRT, well testosterone and estrogen have issues. Estrogen has a bit more tendencies to overpower testosterone. So the surgery is 4-4.5 hours and Sri Gangaram has a big setup, we put up all kinds of surgical instruments but still I am telling all the patients here, 10 to 14 days before the surgery you’ll have to stop your HRT. So say you have your surgery on the 10th, then from the 1st or from the previous month, take your HRT if it is due. Rather than taking on 2nd or 3rd because then you’ll have to avoid taking HRT. And then 2 days after the surgery, you can take it again. Now you can take it the next day too, if you are scared that menses would happen, or you’ll start bleeding again.”
Smoking and drinking before surgery
Dr Bheem talks about smoking and drinking.”So drinking doesn’t prove to be a problem when it comes to healing as long as you are not a chronic alcoholic. If you are a chronic alcoholic then it is a different scene altogether. But if you smoke or take tobacco in any form, please at least days before surgery you’ll have to leave it. If you don’t there can be different complications that could happen. The skin gets darkened, and then there can be thick bruises because the nicotine gets attached to the skin. So tobacco in any form, whether it is smoking or consumption of gutka, should be avoided 10 days before the surgery. This will only benefit you. I wouldn’t have any issues during the surgery, but the results for you will have issues.”
