Driving
Dr Bheem Singh Nanda explains that “Driving we allow up to 3 weeks after the surgery. But only when the binder is on only then driving is allowed because there can be some movement in the chest. For the initial 3 weeks, you cannot drive.”
Gymming
What about gymming? If you are a regular at the gym, is it allowed for you to work out? This is what Dr Bheem says, “Heavy work like gymming you can start in 14-20 days. But avoid doing chest work. Any movement that is making your hand go away 90 degrees, you’ll have to avoid that because that can affect your chest because that is how much you are stretching your scars.”
Keyhole
Things are different for patients who have gone through a keyhole. Dr Bheem explains, “I am talking about Double Incision but in the keyhole, this doesn’t happen. We are making you wear binders so that your skin remains tight and you are doing these movements so it will cause you some harm obviously. So the chest gymming you do at least 2.5 months later. You can do running, biceps or triceps, but chest and shoulder avoid for 2.5-3 months.”
Any special exercises?
Many a time, we are referred to exercises to get better. Dr Bheem says that this is not a requirement here. “No such thing. We are not really touching your shoulder here so it wouldn’t change anything in any sort of exercise. Keep a normal diet, stay healthy and happy and you shall recover quickly.”
