How does the surgery happen?
Dr Bheem talks about how the surgery takes place, he says how he does it, “If we think of a nipple or areola like a clock, so think of the clock striking 3. So from 3 till 6 to 8-9, that is how long the cut would be. So if you see a clock, that portion from say 4-8 is how big the cut would be. So it’s pretty small in keyhole surgery if we look at it. In Double Incision though, it is pretty big. So from the mid to under the shoulder, which is called the axilla. It is pretty big”
What if I have a heavy chest?
Dr Bheem talks about how it is for heavy-chested people. “It depends on how healthy you are, people who are heavier have folds there. So some people are really heavy chested and so they’ll need a bigger cut but then you can’t reach that back sometimes, but we go till the shoulder, till the axilla as we call it. So the part that is visible while the patient is lying down we go till there. Our cuts are big, but then it depends on the body and physique too. So some patients have the skin fatter there so like 5-6 patients I have had fatter skin there.”
Do some people have bigger scars?
Dr Bheem adds, “It depends on the body, so some people have a body that gets bruises very easily and they are deeper while others have slighter bruises. So in Double Incision, you will get a pretty big scar. But if you don’t want it to live long, then plastic surgery and in 2 years the scars will disappear. But lifelong there will be a thin scar that runs there.”
Fractional Laser
Dr Bheem talks about the new technologies that have come into play, “Nowadays there has been development in fractional laser which you can come in 2 months after your surgery, if you think it is affordable for you and reduce the scars completely. Come to the OPD and the scars will fade a bit but yeah scars are lifelong. The keyhole, though, has really small scars which are not even visible.”
Silicone Sheet
Dr Bheem explains these sheets. “So these sheets are 10 cm in length. You can Google it, you can order them from Google from Cicacare and all from 100 for each cm. So the normal that we give is also the same amount, so it is a little economical for the patients. So 1800-2k for 10*10 cm. From that, you can make three sheets. So ideally, you’d need 2 silicone sheets and a half maybe for Double Incision. Keyhole patients do not need these. So keyhole patients do not need anything because of their scars but for double incision, you’ll need 2.5 sheets of 10 by 10. Or what you could do is, you could get a 15cm long, which is much better, because that one you can cut into two halves and it covers both the scars.”
