Did someone influence my gender identity?
No not at all, says Dr Trinka. If we look at the research done in the field then we will realise that this is something that we are born with. This cannot be influenced nor it can be changed.
As a trans person, we often wonder if our gender dysphoria can be cured.
Dr Trinka says the cure is when you think of gender dysphoria as a disease. Gender Dysphoria is not a disorder. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V or the DSM-V which guides all of the diagnoses that are made, clearly mentions that this is not a mental disorder. It is a choice as to how one wants to live.
This is not a disease at all, this is about how you want to live, who you want to fall in love with and how you want to relate to these things.
Like all of us, humans have different perceptions and reactions to things, it is obvious that our identity is also different. No one can influence it.
