Do I need TG ID if I changed my gender marker before?
Can I still use the gazette notification method for my name change? By Sriraksha V Srivastava
Before the TG Card method, there was the gazette notification method but as things and rules change, it has become important for people to find out if gazette notification method is still valid. Sriraksha V Srivastava is here to tell us.
Can I change my certificates with the help of TG Card?
This ACT states that with a TG Card you are now able to change all official documents and it has an illustrative list of documents too. It starts from the birth certificate to gas connection to even your passport. TG Card can change all your official documents.
Section 6 Clause 2 of this ACT states that you can change your documents. And the Rules have an illustrative list of documents that this can be applied on.
Is a gazette notification still valid? Do I have to apply for a TG Card if I have done a gazette notification before?
The ACT came out in 2019 and before that all names were changed with the help of Gazette Notification. And even after the 2019 ACT, one can use the gazette notification method to change their name and gender markers.
For state and central government officials it is still mandatory to have a gazette notification to register their names in the employee service records.
Even Aadhaar rules say this and not just for transpeople. Anyone who is looking to change their name has to go through the gazette notification method.
So Gazette notification and TG Card both work together and you can still use the Gazette Notification method to change your name.
