Are you suffering from excessive hair loss after starting your HRT treatment? What does the doctor say about this?
Dr Kalra says, “No only gender-affirming therapy is not the cause of hair loss.”
What is the reason then?
HRT causing hair loss is not impossible but rare, it can be a host of other reasons that we have not even considered. Dr Kalra says, “We have to check for the reasons. Sometimes there can be multiple vitamin deficiencies, genetics, some illness or thyroid.”
How do we find the reason?
Dr Kalra talks about her plan of action, “First we have to investigate the cause of hair loss. If we don’t find any other cause then HRT is causing it and then we have to decide about the management.”
Possible reasons
It is easy to judge that this might be happening because of HRT or because a friend told you that they are having the same issues while on HRT but it is difficult to narrow it down. Dr Kalra wants the treatment to be done well so that you don’t have to go through this. She says,”So it has to be individualised and we cannot have a generalised statement on hair loss. There can be many reasons ranging from nutrition deficiencies to genetic factors to hypothyroidism, they all have to be evaluated and we have to accordingly give the treatment.”
