MTF
If you are going through MTF Transition and you are worried that your male pattern baldness would carry over or are hoping that the estrogen hormones would make sure that they are gone, the doctor has an answer for you. “If it is an MTF they may have a holandric gene, they may be anyway predisposed to male pattern baldness because of genetic makeup. Because the chromosome makeup is XY.”
What hormones are prescribed during MTF
Well, MTF Transitioning has its own prescribed hormones. Dr Kalra lists them down saying, “When we are doing MTF we do give estrogens and leucocytes.”
What if hair fall continues?
Dr Kalra has a solution for that too. “If the hair fall is continuing then we give finasteride. But it might not work for all patients. Like I said it may not be this, we have to find out the cause and find out the reason and treat that. In case there is something that is not treatable like the holandric gene then we may have to think about other options and discuss them with the dermatologist.”
Teamwork!
Dr Kalra says that HRT is a teamwork! “So basically gender incongruence treatment is not just done by an endocrinologist but it’s teamwork, with a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, dermatologist, ENT, urologist and gynaecologist. All these people help us So dermatologists’ opinion is taken and then we take a call on what we need to do further.”
