The REVIVE programme makes sure that transpeople who are training are placed.
How does the selection for the REVIVE programme work?
REVIVE follows an extremely strict background check for all its candidates. Trishala explains, “So the moment a candidate reaches out to us, we have a process of screening them and as we do our documentation and verify whether they identify themselves as Transgender person and after which, after we have gone through their resumes we kind of identify where they can add value to what you know based on their skill set what kind of position they can apply for as well and we try and do a mapping, we do a one-on-one mapping with our clients and we try to facilitate the procedure from there on but we give a lot of importance to documentation which is a crucial step for our entire recruitment process itself and so the entire process of recruitment can be quite long as well so in order to utilise that time we put them through this training programme.”
REVIVE is a mandatory thing for people who reach out
Trishala explains REVIVE, “We have made it a mandate now because it helps us, to you know, understand the community better and for them to also develop a trust and for us to develop a trust with us and along the training, it gives us an opportunity to understand an individual better and where and which area they can actually be employed with. So sometimes we look at a resume and the kind of skillset they put forward and the kind of persistence and the kind of efforts that we taken while we are in the community. That can actually kind of boost upqualification and it kind of gives us a larger area to look at where you know, this person can also be placed in three other industries right it gives us more options to help a person get more employable as well. So our training programme, actually, focuses a lot- it is a very generic training programme, it’s just an effort to give a little bit of confidence and create an environment where there is a lot of acceptance amongst the community members.”
Cultural melting pot
Trishala says, “So since training programmes are up, our bunch has only transgender people here and for many of us it’s the first time for us to actually meet so many people from their community and so we’re also in a way creating a culture within the community whether we will be able to accept each other and learn about each other’s stories which act as a huge inspiration for each other as well. To understand people who are coming from different backgrounds, there is a lot of diversity amongst themselves, so only if they understand that they will understand you know when they go back to workspaces there is also going to be diversity there and change happens gradually so that’s what we are trying to do with our training and recruitment as well so creating a process that’s more sustainable going forward.”
Any future plans?
In the future, Periferry is trying to add more things to the REVIVE programme. “So we are actually planning to partner with other E-learning platforms or any platforms that give out certification so while we do this training we also want to give out these certifications and put those skills on their resumes as well increasing their employability a little bit so all the time in the training programme. So this is something that is an ongoing effort right now, this we want to implement this for the upcoming batches as well.”
