Most Transpeople has gone through something or the other- whether it be an incident that made it difficult for them to continue with their education or job. So the question comes to mind, will I ever be able to get out and get a job?
An Important Question
Trishala highlights that, “It’s a very important question thanks for asking that. So as an organisation we don’t have any limitations as to, only if you have completed a certain qualification you can reach out to us.”
No qualifications necessary
Trishala informs that it doesn’t matter what you have done, you can reach out at whatever point in your career. “No, if you have just dropped out of school or even if you have five to ten years of experience. So we are looking out for anyone who has that interest and drive to learn and be, you know, stand on their own feet and be more sustainable.”
The aim
They have a particular aim in mind, as Trishala mentions, “So over here what we are trying to do is like I mentioned, Deloitte is one company that supports, that is very open to supporting the community people who have not had the chance to finish their education. So again as an opportunity to sustain themselves while they complete this education, the courses or whatever, they also provide a basic internship through which you get a stipend to sustain yourself for the period of education. So there are companies that are open to skilling them in certain areas and then employing them in the same departments.”
How it grew
Trishala says that, “In the past also done focused group training partnering with corporates where the corporates would give us a curriculum to go over and retrain them. So for example, we had a batch a month ago where we had a three-month long batch where we trained around 20-22 people in Tech and programming skills. So this was done in partnership with Wells Fargo and they are looking to hire from this cohort of 20-22 people itself. So their interview process is going on right now and from, you know, once they are into the company they are further put into some skilling programme where they can upskill from wherever and whichever level they are on. So a lot of companies are opening up a platform assisting people who have not completed their education to pursue it with financial assistance. So this is one initiative that the companies are also bringing up.”
They are understanding now
“The companies also don’t have a restriction when it comes to, you know, some companies do have a requirement testing, you know the graduation needs to be completed but most of them are aware and they are understanding and they are willing to take an effort to skill and educate them and then employ them. So it is a very progressive step for companies, and society as such is also looking at it. So yes I don’t think the community needs to be worried about it going forward because there is an option for everyone.”
