Ensuring that Transpeople have medical health care is possibly the most important part of their job requirements. It is this insurance that guarantees them a good life. And so when we are looking for jobs, this is the first thing that crosses our minds.
Say we require HRT or surgery, how much will the company support us? Will they provide us with everything that we require?
Health Insurance
Trishala says that all of this depends on, “The insurance providers of the company right? So if the insurance providers are aware and are sensitised then the process becomes much faster.”
What about new companies?
Trishala shows her concerns there, “If companies are just starting out and they are having trouble finding insurance partners who they are collaborating with for medical reasons then it might take a little longer.”
Periferry partners
The companies that Periferry is working with do not seem to have that problem though. Trishala explains, “Most of the companies that are reaching out to us are you know, open to as much as free policies and inclusive options. They give out maternity leaves right, so they also want to ensure something that covers Transgender people that are coming into their organisations so there is definitely a huge scope for people to explore that through their companies.”
Insurance companies that cover Trans-health
Are there any specific insurance companies that help cover Trans health? Trishala says that she is not aware, “Not at the moment, I am not personally aware of specific insurance agencies but some companies have partnered with insurance providers that are more aware and they are more sensitized. But particularly at this point in time, I am not aware of any particular agency as such.”
