Will I have difficulty in getting a GD if I have other comorbidities ?
Will I get a GD Certificate if I have other co-morbidities? By Dr Mohan Raj
Other mental co-morbidities might prove to be a hindrance in finding your gender dysphoria.
This might complicate your GD evaluation.
How will I get my GD if I have other mental co-morbidities?
If you have other psychiatric issues then they have to be treated before the GD evaluation can begin. So if there is a psychotic disorder then that has to be treated beforehand because if there are many delusions then gender identity can be a similar delusion. And this is a risk of delusional disorders. So, curing should be concentrated on, says Dr Mohan Raj.
If you have a psychotic disorder then it needs to be cured before you begin your transition. Because if you have multiple issues then it is possible that this might also be an issue. When there is Schizophrenia or other kinds of delusion as a comorbid condition then obviously we cannot give a GD Certificate. We have to first concentrate on the illness and treat it. If there is depression and the depression is due to gender dysphoria then treating gender dysphoria will treat depression what is the cause of this depression? If the depression is caused due to gender dysphoria then curing gender dysphoria will make the depression better. Acting upon your Gender Dysphoria is a very important life decision, and it cannot be taken under the pressure of extreme emotions. If they are extremely depressed then it has to be treated first and then one should be evaluated for Gender dysphoria. If one has OCD then first OCD needs to be cured after being concentrated on.
. This happens because you are making some major life decisions are to be taken without extreme influence of extreme emotions. So if one is severely depressed then treat depression and then evaluate for gender dysphoria.
Does this affect the timeline for a GD certificate?
If a person is approaching the psychiatrist then it is very clear that you have spent months d thought and through the process of gender dysphoria. This entire time is spent in reading about gender dysphoria and getting informed well about the same. Since they know what is happening they are also clearly able to tell what they are going through.
