This is a misconstruction in the heads of most of the people in our country and how the transition will lead to issues and surgery is basically harming our bodies. So ultimately, it will lead to a decrease in our life span. This narrative is so popular that even most trans people believe it. But it is also true that trans people who live in the closet are always so stressed out. Stressed and depressed people also have trouble with lifespan, their immunity decreases and because of said stress there is hypertension, diabetes and all
Doctor’s comments
Dr Salil Patil believes, “Every person has the complete right to live exactly how they want to live and that we should not steal or keep away from them. If someone has gender dysphoria, if we have gender identity disorders then it has treatments available, and these treatments should be done.
By doing a GRS surgery, your lifespan will not decrease. If you are fit, if you have no other complications then GRS will not hamper your lifespan, your life quality or your potential.
Changes
Yes, changes will obviously be there, there will be physical changes when you are going for MTF or FTM Transition and you will have differences in body structures compared to a biological man or woman of the same age. But that is a normal part of life. It’s not like it will cripple your strength or it will weaken you a lot.
Problems
So because of surgery, something in your life will be missing is not right at all. This misconception exists in a lot of people because of increased ignorance. So because we don’t know something, something is new we demonise it and we leave it in the world. This concept that a few people have because it doesn’t match the majority and so it is wrong. Because of this a lot of issues are created and because of that a lot of their life is spent in depression and stress and anxiety.
Personal Opinion and Advice
In my opinion, says Dr Salil, “If any Trans person asks if they should go forward with GRS then they should absolutely do that. Because of this, their quality of life will be increased by a great margin. It will bring about a radical change and you will finally realise your potential. If you are talking about technicalities like because of HRT there are complications the chances of strokes increase, your blood thickens- these are true. They do happen. But they can be treated through proper treatments under endocrinologists and if you follow their advice properly then you can live properly and be healthy.
And after all of this, when you are finally free when you can live exactly like you wanted to live then your life will become much better. It wouldn’t be bad. People will keep saying and if you want to listen to them or not is your personal choice. But at the end of the day, you should do what makes you happy and not what makes them happy.”
