How much do different GRS procedures cost ?
Surgeries can be a costly affair and to save up money for it needs to be planned ahead. Dr Richie Gupta tells us the rates in Fortis hospital?
What does GRS cost in Fortis Hospital?
Fortis Hospital naturally costs more than smaller institutions and nursing homes. For breast augmentation, it takes from 2 to 2.5 Lakhs, this is cause motiva implants are being used which are imported from the US. These implants cost about 80,000. Breast augmentation can also take place with the help of fat injections. So we can take fat from different places in the body and put it in the breasts in 2 to 5 seatings. And each seating costs upto 50 to 60 thousand.
What are the three types of vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty are of three types- one is modified penile inversion technique which is a procedure that Dr Richie Gupta and the Fortis team developed and have consequently published in the Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery in July of 2023. The other two are peritoneal and sigmoid. Penile inversion costs about 2.75 Lakhs and peritoneal costs 3.5 Lakhs and sigmoid costs 4 Lakhs.
Which is the best technique for vaginoplasty accoeding to Dr Richie Gupta?
So according to the patients requirement, the best vaginoplasty technique is modified penile inversion. This is because the penis is left as it is, everything is done through the perineal route. The penis size decreases in Trans people after taking hormones and so Transwomen do not have many penile tissues. So Fortis and Dr Richie Gupta have modified the technique and they now use a perineal flap which is called the perineal scrotal flap and it is made from upto 60 percent of the vaginal lining and 40 percent of the penile flap. So there is a lot of extra tissue that is used to make the vaginal lining. From 5 to 6 inches of depth can be found in modified penile inversion vaginoplasty. In Peritoneal vaginoplasty the inside lining of the abdominal cavity where the organs exist are cut out and it results in 6 to 7 inches of depth. And sigmoid can result in the depth of 8 to 10 inches.
Does age affect the decision of surgery? What is the oldest patient that Dr Richie Gupta has operated on?
So the youngest patient that Dr Richie Gupta has operated on was 18 years old- under which it is not legally permitted to do transition related surgeries. And the oldest person that he has operated on was a 60 year old transwoman who was from Australia.
The fitness level in people varies. At a younger age, there isn’t much of an issue but when you get older, illness like diabetes, hypertension and any other issue which is found in the genral population. And they affect the results. So when it is an older patient we want them to be okay before the surgery. If there is a blood sugar issue or blood pressure or cardiac issues- all need to be tested and treated. Another important thing is that the patient needs to have a BMI of 19 to 24, if they are 25 or 30 then they are overweight. Patients who have a BMI upto 30 are treated, beyond that they are told to reduce it or there can be complications. This is true for any surgery and not merely for vaginoplasty.
