According to Dr Salil, these days the most effective procedure in MTF Transition is Penile Inversion wherein the skin of the penis is taken and used to create a vagina.

What are the advantages?

Well, there are a few advantages to this technique:

Firstly,

The skin of the penis is available to us. And it is in a cylindrical form so you have a vagina already ready for you. So we can separate the skin and make it into a vagina by putting it between the prostate and the anal canal or rectum.

So in that small holes can be made and a urine tube can be inserted. Males have longer ones than females because it comes out through females so they can be made into a smaller thing and be put into an adequate spot.

Finally,

The existing penis structure with the tip, which is called the glands, is a sensitive part. So using the glands we attach it right on top of the syringe opening, because of which you will keep getting tiny sensations. So the vaginal skin and the normal vagina have a difference in how the sensation feels. They are not exactly the same. Because sensations are important especially during intercourse so the glans, the tip of the penis is used to make sure that you feel some sensation.

So the advantage is basically that you can just simply use the same skin as your penis and then you also get the scrotal skin, which makes the appearance really good.

Then the chances of it contracting because the penis skin is super elastic so it can expand a lot so the contraction chances are less as compared to skin grafting.

Finally, generally, most people don’t need any additional procedures or additional length if we use the penis skin. Sometimes, if the penis size is small then maybe the vagina wouldn’t be adequate. The normal length of a vagina is 10-11 cm and this can be achieved from a penis skin but for some people, it isn’t available so for them we can go for either skin grafting, or there is the peritoneal fold technique.
