Will my pelvic bone structure cause issues in vaginoplasty ?
Dr Richie Gupta explains that there is a pubic tuberosity where pelvic bones meet and there is a ramus behind which is the ischiopubic ramus. Inter-ischiopubic ramus is about 5.5cms for cis-women and 3.5cms for transwomen- which is thin. So this is why we use thin flaps like penile skin flap or sigmoid or for peritoneum vaginoplasty. We don’t use thick flaps like gracilis for transwomen. This happens in women during cancerous situations. Thin straps are used and so the dimension is also thin so this becomes a bony limitation. In 600 vaginoplasties, this happened only once. This is not a normal occurrence.
How much time does it take to recover from a vaginoplasty?
Most of the scars heal within 4 to 5 days of the surgery and then discharge happens, dialations, then the catheter comes out between the 7th and the 10th day. Most scars are healed up by the third day and then patients are advised to work by the 4-5 day and engage in household chores by the 2nd week and from the 3rd week they can go on a walk. After 3 months they can start aggressive gymming. This will be a transition period.
