[deleted] your are absolutely correct Mr, Rihaan. as it is often said Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. The world beauty and its meaning are subjective. As we are already questioning the ascriptive property such as gender, sexuality why not the beauty, which is also ascriptive. If someone asks a blind person what beauty is they may define it in such a way that will make you laugh or even question the very notion of beauty. The society is already seeing everyone with the ill conceived prism of masculinity and feminity. Why should a man have a well-defined body to be identified as masculine and women have white skin, 36-24-3 figure to be called a beauty? Our functions in the society have changed over time. It was physical work a few decades back that made men and women naturally well defined. But now to get such shapes one has to spend hours in the gym to make ourselves up to the standards of the society. Is it worth to change ourselves for some social construct?
Indian women won miss world in the 1990s. Aren't there anyone beautiful in our country before the 1990s? This makes beauty as a commercial entity and its definition to serve their business interest.
Inline with the thoughts of Rihaan, IT'S NOT IMPORTANT HOW OTHERS SEE YOU, BUT HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR. Like Rihaan said he may not get the masculine identity, I may not get the so called feminine details, but when we see ourselves in the mirror we see what we are. we see ourselves as the embodiment of handsomeness and gorgeousness.
Why am I writing such a boring post? Maybe it will help someone to look beyond physical beauty and search for the inner beauty that many has forgotten to see.
Having said that when I personally see the beauty pageant show for trans women, I have little aversion to it. That may be because I don't want others to see and label me as trans women rather as women. However, these kinds of trans pageant show aren't new. They are conducted in many countries. Every year Ms. Koovangam is been conducted in Tamilnadu for trans women. This has done nothing so far. This kind of social experiments needs due coverage from media. Then only the expected change in the mindset of people can be achieved. Until such change, we need to keep our fingers crossed for better future,
