I recently went through the Indian Gazette name and gender change process myself, and to put it mildly, it is an absolute bureaucratic nightmare.

Almost all the information online regarding updating your legal identity especially when it involves gender marker changes is either hopelessly outdated, completely scattered across random forum threads, or buried deep inside confusing government PDFs. Because the process is such a black box, agents routinely charge people ₹20,000+ just to explain the steps or format basic templates. Worse, I found multiple horror stories of vulnerable people paying these "middlemen" only to get fake records or never receive a verifiable Gazette entry.

I got tired of seeing people get exploited or stuck in legal limbo, so I spent my time building a completely free, open-source Gazette guide and document automation tool to make the entire name and gender update workflow transparent and easy to navigate.

I know how sketchy it feels to input personal identity details and transition-related documentation into a random website. Because this tool handles highly sensitive personal data, I designed it to be entirely privacy-first:

🚧 Current Status & Roadmap

The tool is fully functional for the Central Gazette workflow right now. A few people have already used it successfully, reporting their publications getting completed in around 2 weeks using the in-person submission workflow detailed in the guide (though postal submission and government processing timelines can always vary).

This project is entirely free, open-source, and has zero paywalls. You will never hit a gate blocking your generated documents.

I have included an optional support page linking to my Razorpay on the site. I am a trans person currently navigating a tough spot with financial instability and housing insecurity while trying to maintain my own medical transition care, so development happens in the gaps of trying to stay afloat.

I have been frantically searching for such guidance for the last 5 years. What was missing for me in the pervious resources was the "keep it under the radar" aspect, while still ensuring the legal, functional status and reference templates.

I can't begin to describe how relieved I was when a friend forwarded the webpage to me. Thank you so very much for putting this together. It may not seem like a mammoths task from the outside but for many of us, this is deeply central to our lives.

I have been trying to get my name and gender corrected through the TG ID for years now, but the 2026 Act has clearly closed the portal. I want to get my name corrected through the Gazette route, but I’m confused about the process. The thing is, I did not want to get my documents made until I had corrected my name and gender, so the only things I have are the Aadhaar, PAN, and my Birth certificate. My school marksheets will only have my name either way, so I’m not too bothered about that. I got my gender changed in the Aadhaar months ago when the Bill was being introduced, as I was really panicked. So now, I’m confused: should I just apply for a name change in the gazette, or for both a name change and a gender change?

It’s because I want to apply for a passport, but I haven't had any surgery. I have been on T for about 3 years now, but will showing a name and gender change request in the gazette cause me trouble for a passport, as in will they ask for proof of surgery? I’m really sorry if I’m not making much sense; I tried to put my thoughts together the best I could, but I'd really appreciate some help, as I want to get my name changed ASAP.
