I was reading the newspaper this morning and came across https://www.deccanherald.com/opinion/forced-to-conform-irans-transgender-tourism-trap-3763223 interesting article on the history of gender reassignment surgeries in Iran, making it a destination for cheap gender reaffirming surgeries. On the face of it, it is surprising to see that a country known for its conservatism, coexists with this progressive facet. However, this expertise arose from forced surgeries on Lesbian and Gays for them to become 'normal' (heterosexuals), so all is not as well as it should be.
Just looking around the world, India seems among the most progressive nations for LGBTQ rights and protection (thanks in large part to forums like this, which has lent a voice to this community). I think this moves beyond legal protection.... I think our society is quite accepting by and large, this from personal experience. I hope most here feel the same way.
