Hello everyone,
I wanted to share something important from my personal experience and also start a discussion about it, hoping we can help and support each other.
I am a transgender woman, and I have been on HRT for a few years. Recently, I underwent sigmoid vaginoplasty surgery from Dr. Narendra Kaushik, and I paid for it fully in cash myself. Now, I am trying to explore health insurance options that can cover transgender-related healthcare, including HRT, surgeries, doctor visits, and regular check-ups.
In the past, I contacted multiple health insurance companies, but most of them straightly rejected me when I mentioned Iβm transgender and on HRT. It felt really frustrating because many of us face such difficulties despite the growing awareness about transgender rights in India.
I came across a story of another trans sister who successfully got health insurance while being on HRT and undergoing surgery (specifically sigmoid vaginoplasty from Dr. Ritchie Gupta at Fortis Hospital). I reached out to her to know more about her experience, the insurance company sheβs with, and the benefits she is receiving, hoping that it could help me and others.
π¬ I want to open this discussion to ask if anyone here has successfully managed to get health insurance as a transgender person in India β
π Which company did you get it from?
π What kind of benefits does the insurance provide (HRT, surgeries, check-ups, etc.)?
π What was your experience applying and getting accepted?
It would be amazing if we could build a helpful resource here for our community, so nobody has to struggle alone.
Thank you for reading β€οΈ
