I am a Transwomen who didn't begin a therapy or surgery yet
In this discussion i noticed, that people talking about getting Gender Identity Disorder (GID) certificate
Recently under Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019,
If one wants to Identify themselves as "Transgender" in any Legal Document, They have to make application to District Magistrate (of their domicile area) to get a Certificate as "Transgender Person"
I was searching procedure for getting such certificates from DM, which is very difficult for me to convince my parents to get it (Because, none of our relations or my parents friends don't know that I am a Trans, If we approach a DM office in our domicile area to get such certificate, then the problem will open up)
But here I found something New, of getting GD or GID Certificate from psychiatrist, that is very comfortable then approaching a Government office or an officer.
Can I know why and at where it is used for?
Is that Certificate is enough, to fill my Gender as "others" or "Transgender" in the Application forms, particularly for any central or state government service examinations? (Usually for some special category people (such as SC or Physically Disabled), they demand to attach certain certificates as a proof along with such application)
Was The GID Certificate provide by Dr. Hema Tharoor (or any other psychiatrist) is valid for such purpose (to Identify ourselves as "Transgender" in any Legally Application (or) to get Reservation benefits from government etc.)?
Please answer my queries, Because without such certificates I am really struggling, for example- If I joined any Government Institution or College hostel, They ask me to
- Share a Room with boys which is really Very...Very...Very Uncomfortable
- Cut my hair short like men etc.
At last I wants to know,
"Was the GDI Certificate provide by psychiatrist is equally powerful and valid as the Certificate issued by District Magistrate?"
