Getting TG card while being abroad

Hello! So I wanted to apply for the TG card so that I could change my passport, aadhar card and other documents. But i currently reside in Europe, and while trying to work through the https://transgender.dosje.gov.in website , I found out I have to submit a GD certificate. I have this certificate from a European psychiatrist, will it work for the application? Or i have to specifically get it in India? also, I can get affidavit with the help of some agency online but do i have to be present in person to get the card? or can some family member collect it for me?
It has been a very confusing process for me, and i will appreciate if someone could help me with this.

The ID card and Certificate will only be given to you and for changing all other documents would suggest to start with Aadhar and then move on to one by one documents so that when you go for your passport application it will go smoothly

As for the GD certificate if from a hospital it will work as that can be verified but otherwise if it is from an Individual Psychiatric Clinic it will be difficult but you can get a GD certificate online as well in India through a VC with a psychatrist

MeeraVihula It's probably best to check with the Embassy (or, Consulate-General, as the case may be) of India in your country/city. It's unlikely they will be up to speed, but they are the only ones that can help you.

The specific rules of how to get the card vary on even a per-state basis in India, there's no saying how it'll be for overseas citizens. I don't believe the website you linked to even allows applications from non-domiciliary states (I had to change my address to Karnataka before I could apply).

MeeraVihula hai dear, did you get the ID card?. I am going uk in 3weeks, i am also a transwoman but pre everything, i haven't even come out yet. Would it be a bad idea if do the transition in UK itself after settling down?. I also needs the ID card because of the passport and i needs to get my family inheritance in future, and also to change each and every documents, would it be a bad idea for me to do the transition outside india?.

Do you think it will be easier to get the certificate since I already have one from the country I am residing in?
Or I will have to jump through all the hoops again to prove the GD 😡

This is a real trouble at the moment for me.... i have started hrt and other things here with the psychiatrists etc. but it was just last month that I was informed that I can get the TG card and it will help in further documentation as well.

And yes, you are right that website does not allow me to input application from outside of India.

Im skeptical if the embassy can even help because I doubt they have any in depth inkling of information about the transgender laws and legislations in India.

MeeraVihula It is their literal job to help you, and any Consul-General worth their salt will at least try. Don't give up without giving it a shot.

you won't have to prove GD again just contact a psychiatrist in India who can verify the GD certificate with your psychiatrist who issued it and then the Indian one will issue it based on that

Changing Gender does not remove you from inheritance normally a family tree has to be made for any form of inheritance or transfer of property within family so as long as your ID card numbers are the same it does not matter if you change gender or name

Simmy_Thomas_24 i wont say it will be a bad idea... i hope you were able to figure it out. I got my documents changed in the country im living in.. and got a medical certificate for it. I am gonna go for the passport change next month... lets hope it works out as easily as i got to get the European ID card.... though i had to go through the medical board of the country i am residing in.

Write a letter/email to the school and the board and attach the affidavit you used for TG id and provide the TG id and certificate as annexures to that letter and then leave it upto them to the further process and if they have any fees do pay that fees can be inform of reissuing the certificate or correction etc
