Transgender and Third Gender are not same!! Govt. when will you learn?

Sunny No dear. We're not a minority. It's just that we're not as well networked, organized and vocal about our issues as the Hijra community. Many of us go stealth. Want to blend in with bio women.
There's a reason why many hijra trans women are more content with their transition than non hijra trans women. They live outside the binary and use the word 'transwoman' without any fear or shame.

eva May be ur right, but even in open groups like this forum for non hijra transwomen, we dont see much involvement from ppl , this makes me doubt the possibility that there is huge number of Non hijra transwomen. I do feel we are minority within a minority as of now. in future the ratios may be reserved

Can you supply us a link to the hijra jamath system. I tried to look it up and didn't find anything to help me understand what a jamath is.

The problem is, the article assumes you know what the word jamath means, and the context in which jamath exists in the Indic world - I have never seen this word before, so I cannot tell what context it's supposed to be seen in. There is the danger of seeing things in the wrong way (i.e., a view that is western or Abrahamic-centric rather than Indic in origin).

Well I am also against the usage of the word "Third Gender" as a substitute for Transgender and Transsexual people. Because in India Third Gender people literally mean Hijra Community. I am utterly disappointed about people's perception of transmen and transwomen in Indian society even when they are highly educated people. I am a 22 years old Transman Ftm and I recently decided to break the silence and stealth I was living with till now and have decided to come out and socially transition first to make things less complicated in the future. So I came out to my mom and dad. My dad's reaction was shocking. He told me that he thinks I am a "Hijra" and thus if I start transitioning to a man, he will throw me out of the house so that I can go and stay with the hijra people's jamath Community which is the right place for me according to him. He told me that if I Transition I have to beg at the streets just like the kinnars do. My mom was like "Don't be a Hijra!!"
Whenever I tried to come out as a transman to my friends their reaction were like " You mean to say that you are a Hijra?? "
It was a big punch to my manly self. Especially to an educated youth and an IAS Aspirant like me. It's not that I disrespect the kinnars in any way but all I want to say is I don't identify as a kinnar or bigender but as a normal male.

People's view about transmen and women needs a complete change. I think the media and the LGBT Activists must make people more aware of the difference between the kinnars and the Transgenders.
Hoping for a change ??

[deleted] i totally agree with you . The term third gender represents only Hijra. In India even amoung Trans comunity Transguys doesnot exists. We are super invisible even in the minority group. Making ourselves visible itself is a big deal. I'm a transguy myself and its almost impossible to connect other fellow transman and dont let me start about the medical or legal issues.

We should take in account our country past so far we had the third gender term for both mtf ftm gay etc ( as a umbrella term) though we have some internal category. Giving a seperate category for transmen, transwoman, etc is impossible . So far the time being its appreciable that they have gone to give a umbrella term and they are not people who browse web for dsm or gd etc they dont know the difference between cd and trans .

So we good educated people should tell them . Irctc has email, feedback etc but we need to think their point also this umbrella term eventhough scientifically cant bring homosexual in it but can bring them inside to some extent morally. If you seriously have any idea for a seperate reservation for transpeople do tell irctc ?

What are they supposed to do and how would they do it ?? We also need to include all lgbtq under this roof.

They use third gender term as its legal now to put up for reservation.we cant change law but we can fight for it thats what gandhi taught us thats what mandela etc people did . So next time when you have time educate people fight for your rights then they will understand

Anita I think world over transgender is the umbrella term that encompasses mtf, ftm, cd, non gender confirming etc...

& homosexuality is always out of transgender umbrella... sexual orientation & gender Identity are 2 different entities.

Is there any problem if the Government puts up two more options of Transman and Transwoman along with the traditional male, female and third Gender Option ??
Because see you identify as a complete woman, I identify as a 100% man, kinnars identify themselves as bigendered. See non binary or genderqueer people fit in nicely under the term third Gender.
Here lies the difference.
Every one must atleast have the freedom to use their preferred pronouns and the term they want to use to label themselves. If I don't like the word Third gender to describe myself, I won't do that forcefully. Rather after transition I will choose the option male rather than third gender. Because I am not a bigendered and I can't lie.

[deleted] As gender is fluid, there are more than two genders available. Why we need to be identity as trans woman or transmen. Do we refer other people as cis woman or cis men? For me, all transwomen are woman and transmen are men. We don't need anything new to be added in the already complicated government procedures and forms. If we don't identity us on any of the two genders, we can take the third gender category....

If you think about it there is no logical reason for any information on your ID other than your Name, PAN (IN) or SSN (US), and some form of Two-Factor Authentication (also known as 2FA)

It should be a smart card that only displays your photo, and whatever Common Alias you go by. It need not, and probably shouldn't display your real name.

No Constituent's Information should be visible on the card.

Only state authorized software can access information on the card and connect to your government's online database with your Constituent Profile.
